Haderax the Invincible joined the Borderlands 2 party late, in the Commander Lilith & the fight for Sanctuary DLC, and whilst offering a new challenge, compared to the Seraph Guardians that came before, Haderax doesn't quite live up to the hype.Īs far as challenge goes, Vermivorous the Invincible is perhaps the least threatening raid boss of them all. The Invincible Sentinel does transform into the The Invincible Empyrean Sentinel when you whittle down enough of its health, elevating the challenge of the fight, but with some real titans coming up, this one just doesn't quite stack up.įighting one of those massive sandworms from Dune has always seemed pretty cool, but when you are a Vault Hunter equipped with massively powerful weapons, it turns out the fight isn't all that fair. This ancient being is just a stronger version of a story boss, and despite having some pretty interesting mechanics, we don't ever really feel the call to jump back in to fight this one. The Invincible Sentinel / The Invincible Empyrean SentinelĬonsidering The Invincible Sentinel is all that Borderlands: The Pre Sequel brought to the table in terms of raid bosses, it wasn't all that special. Sure, he makes for a great place to farm Badass Tokens and loot, but for a raid boss, he feels lacking compared to the competition.ġ3. This boss is basically just an upgraded version of Pyro Pete and is super easy to take down, provided you don't get too close to him and can withstand his elemental damage. Someone had to take the bottom slot, and for me, this is without a shadow of a doubt, Pyro Pete the Invincible. Needless to say, a wave of memories flooded back over me, memories that cost me billions in digistructing fees, but it did give me the idea to rank each of the 15 raid bosses that have made an appearance in a Borderlands game to date, in my own personal opinion of course. This vicious Varkid once again made me realise that I was in fact not the biggest badass to wander the galaxy, and it made me think back to the countless times when I deluded myself into that very same false sense of security. While the murder mystery storylines are daft and fun to play, myself, being a lunatic, was instantly drawn to the call of the new raid boss, Hemovorous the Invincible. With the Borderlands 3: Director's Cut launching just a few weeks ago, I've once again fallen back into my vault hunting habits to explore all the new content the expansion has brought along. I really enjoyed it, and look forward to taking my boys to see the movie version that’s recently been released. Hugo Cabret (Asa Butterfield) is the protagonist, whose orphaned life is analogous to the dismantled automaton he is trying to repair. Combining elements of novel, graphic novel, and cinema, this is a unique reading experience. Half the pages are gorgeous sketches that tell part of the story, and many of the pages of text are only a paragraph or two long. Who is this mysterious old man and what is his connection to Hugo’s automaton? And will the automaton provide the answers Hugo is looking for?Īt 533 pages, this is actually a very quick read my two boys each read it in a day, and I read it in two afternoons. In possession of the automaton his father was so lovingly trying to restore before his death, Hugo also steals mechanical parts from the train station’s toy booth, hoping to one day refurbish the automaton himself, convinced that the automaton will provide the answers Hugo needs to survive.Īlong the way, he becomes entangled with the toy booth’s owner, a cantankerous old man, and a strong-willed young girl who seems intent on thwarting Hugo’s every effort. Hugo lives by his wits – traveling through secret tunnels and passageways in the train station, and stealing food for his survival. Not wanting to be discovered without an adult caretaker lest he end up in an orphanage, Hugo continues to keep the train station’s clocks so as to not alert anyone to his uncle’s disappearance. A great memorable quote from the Hugo movie on - Hugo Cabret: Angry and disappointed that the automaton hasnt written anything of sense What. Hugo knows clocks and mechanics – his beloved father was a clockmaker who discovered a mysterious, broken-down automaton in the attic of a museum, and set to work refurbishing it, only to have his project come to an abrupt end upon his untimely death. Having been taken in by his drunken uncle, the keeper of the clocks at the train station, after the young boy’s parents die, Hugo begins keeping the train station clocks himself when his uncle mysteriously disappears. The Invention of Hugo Cabret is the story of a young orphan living in a busy Paris train station in the 1930s. So just the beauty of this book intrigued me. There is an automaton (mechanical man) in the book. The automaton, a mechanized doll built more than two centuries ago by the Swiss watchmaker Henri Maillardet, uses the power from the wind-up motors, carried through linkages to its right arm, to. Let me just stop here and confess that I am often a sucker for aesthetics when it comes to books although one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, it’s very often the cover that draws me in the first place. This photo and the rest we have tagged with Hugo Cabret illustrate some of the many reasons why we. When I found it at Barnes & Noble, what I found was a big, meaty book with a wonderfully colorful jacket, full of beautiful artwork and pages of text framed in black. I’m not often drawn to juvenile literature, but I overheard a couple of friends talking about this book at a recent book club gathering and decided to get it for my two older boys. The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick ^ "Indonesia risks falling into the Middle Income trap".^ a b Graphic detail Charts, maps and infographics ().Other economists either find that there is no middle income trap or claim thatĭebates about a “middle-income trap” appear anachronistic: middle-income countries have exhibited higher growth rates than all others since the Diversifying exports is also considered important to escape the middle income trap. This requires investments in infrastructure and education-building a high-quality education system that encourages creativity and supports breakthroughs in science and technology that can be applied back into the economy. The biggest challenge is to move from resource-driven growth based on cheap labor and cheap capital to growth based on high productivity and innovation. It is also important to increase domestic demand, because an expanding middle class can use its increasing purchasing power to buy high-quality, innovative products and help drive growth. Avoidance Īvoiding the middle income trap requires identifying strategies to introduce new processes and find new markets to maintain export growth. įrom 1960 to 2010, only 15 out of 101 middle-income economies escaped the middle income trap, including the Four Asian Tigers: Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. They suffer from low investment, slow growth in the secondary sector of the economy, limited industrial diversification and poor labor market conditions and increasingly, aging populations. As a result, newly industrialized economies such as South Africa and Brazil have not, for decades, left what the World Bank defines as the 'middle-income range' since their per capita gross national product has remained between $1,000 to $12,000 at constant (2011) prices. Dynamics Īccording to the concept, a country in the middle-income trap has lost its competitive edge in the export of manufactured goods due to rising wages, but is unable to keep up with more developed economies in the high-value-added market. MIT is a new phenomenon and was first mentioned in 2007 in Gill and Kharas's World Bank report "An East Asian Renaissance: Ideas for Economic Growth". Origin of the term Įconomists Indermit Gill and Homi Kharas coined the term at World Bank in 2006 when they were working in the ground strategies for Eastern Asian economics. The term was introduced by the World Bank in 2006 and is defined by them as the 'middle-income range' countries with gross national product per capita that has remained between $1,000 to $12,000 at constant (2011) prices. The middle income trap is an economic development situation in which a country that attains a certain income (due to given advantages) gets stuck at that level. We reviewed all the major players when it comes to screenwriting apps. The question is, what are the best mobile screenwriting apps? Here we've reviewed some of the best screenwriting apps you might want to consider downloading. It's a huge bummer because I upgraded to this new device mainly to improve performance with FD Writer, and now it simply does not work at all.Do you find you get inspiration while on-the-go or do you prefer to write in coffee shops? If you often find your writing routine needs you to be mobile, then you will want a way to access screenwriting software on the move. I can continue writing on the iPad Mini until I find a fix, but that's highly unfavorable. Has anyone here experienced similar issues, and if so, do you know of a fix? I'm going to contact FD customer support tomorrow afternoon, but if anyone knows something I can do in the meantime, I'd be really grateful. Some recent reviews of the newest version on the App Store seem to express the same problem, but Googling has thus far given me no answers. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software, but that fixed nothing. The pre installed scripts that come with the app showed the same problem, and starting a new one from scratch also didn't work. The page count was still correct, but everything was completely blank and I couldn't type anywhere. I downloaded the FD Writer app and went to import my scripts from Dropbox onto the device, only to find when I opened them that they were completely blank. Today I decided that I'd dealt with it long enough and upgraded to an iPad Pro 10.5". Until today I was working on a shitty second generation iPad Mini, and due to the ancient processor, after about twenty minutes of work any characters I entered into the app experienced about a quarter of a second's worth of delay before appearing on the screen. I do all of my writing on the iOS app Final Draft Writer, and while sometimes buggy, up until recently it's gotten the job done just fine. Question for those of you who work on iPads. Is there an easy fix for it? Ironically, by making the ability better you can make it so spending a whole turn to use it is a bigger investment, but make the reward similarly impressive. Plus, because it’s a commander, you’ll get to see it every single game, coming down consistantly on turn two. And then you’re left with a strategy that’s probably going to mostly rest on this one, single card for the rest of the game. But it’s also cheap enough that when it lands, the next turn is probably also fighting something, and then the incentive is there to push that further. It has a reasonable fight-lord effect, and it’s pretty decent at it. This commander can cast Pounce, which is a pretty cool spell. What this can do is create a kind of interesting, weird incentive. That means Commanders make the game more consistant by definition. The thing that makes this worse is commanders? Commanders are always-drawn cards. Better than some options? Great! Better than any option? Not a good idea. Null variance cards mean that every single card you could draw is less powerful, or less interesting, than just repeating the last turn. But there’s a world of difference between a prison deck and a null variance card. That’s what their plan is to do, and the best ways to do it is to deprive people of resources and their ability to engage with the game itself. After all, several Prison players actively like being able to force the game that tends toward variance into consistancy. The issue isn’t that identical turns is an inherent evil. You want to avoid cards that take the unreliability of Magic: the Gathering and melts it away, avoiding null variance cards. What you want to look out for is when your design, for cube or commander, makes every turn pretty much identical. In the words of Loading Ready Run, ‘this is my life now.’Īnother comparison is Masticore – Masticore is a little more of a lock-up for it, but when you drop a Masticore, Masticore is going to be your game plan for the rest of the game, until someone else changes it by getting rid of your Masticore – somehow. Pack Rat strategy can basically boil down to making rats every turn until you hit 6 mana, then finishing up emptying your hand to make rats. Whatever you draw off the top of your library has to compare to giving all your rats +1/+1 and not being counterable. The issue with Pack Rat is that, bereft of other factors, it makes every single turn that follows it pretty much the same. It’s really cool as an enabler, it interacts with interesting mechanics like Devotion and Madness, and it’s also a single threat that, once on the table, can ignore most of what you’re opponent’s doing to just spread and swarm the board. The Pack Rat Problem is, well, first of all, let’s look at Pack Rat. Second, every type of play is valid, but for the purpose of this, we’re assuming we’re talking about play environments that are at least a bit similar to limited and commander play you can see right now, and not super-competitive formats. In both of those circumstances, you’re talking about high-variance environments. Here then, let’s consider: Does your card create a Pack Rat Problem?įirst, some basic premises: One of the most common places you see custom cards actually used is in cubes or commander. But we have these problems and sometimes I think it’s worthwhile considering them. This will discuss custom card designs and while it should only feature some abstract examples, I understand you are not allowed to look at unsolicited card designs.Ĭustom card designs feature a host of oddball problems, weird habits that we get into and things we don’t consider because well, mostly, custom designers are lone creators without the force of design and development behind us. I'll keep their hands empty, and anything they do play i can easily destroy.īut i'm always open to make this better, so suggestion are appreciated.Wizards employees, please do not read any further. I'm pretty happy with my current build of this, and usually come mid to late game i have no trouble locking the field down with this. I currently have Murder and tragicslip for my creature removal, and if my opponents have any artifacts, planewalkers, or artifacts they want to play, i'm just going to pray that I can make them discard those cards before they can be cast. Marrow-Gnawer spawns my rats and gives them fear, I have the standard hand control of Despise, Duress, and Distress.įor creatures that can make players discard. It's fairly simple, build up as many rats as possible, while keeping your opponents hands empty. I love my rat deck! it is so fun to play. Another nice thing is that he uses modern notation, so you don't have to struggle to decipher what he means. Also, he is much more focused on the mathematics than on the biographies of the great mathematicians. This is not a theorem-proof kind of book, since he is not interested in developing theory, but gives many examples of concrete objects, abstract notions and theorems that have been studied by mathematicians throughout history, which at later stage became the prototypical examples of more general theories. My recommendation for a general historical overview on mathematics is Stillwell's "Mathematics and it's history". "A thing that happens very often in mathematics is that you start with something concrete(.), and out of this concrete concept grows an abstract axiomatic notion (.), then you suddenly discover, with a pleasant surprise (only it shouldn't have been all that surprising), that every one of these abstract objects has a concrete representation by one of those things that you started out with." I love this phrase from the famous mathematician, Paul Halmos, given at the beggining of a series of lectures on linear operators: I also might try Gauss' Disquisitiones Arithmaticae to learn about the number theory in details. For those who have experience or read those books, could you tell me how they inspired or benefited you? Also, are those books fairly independent of each other? Are they better than books like Hairer/Wanner to learn about the historical background of real analysis? I am particularly interested in Euler's books: "Introduction to Analysis of the Infinite, I-II", "Foundations of Differential Calculus", and "Elements of Algebra". Recently, I started to become very curious about why concepts and theorems in the real analysis and topics come as they are the legendary books in topology like Engelking and Kelley have been guiding me to answer the questions such as "Why do we care?" or "What motivates such theorems, definitions, axioms?", but I was not able to answer such questions from the analysis books like Rudin, which actually resulted in shallow understanding of the analysis (somehow I forced myself to memorize the contents from Rudin). That is a reason why I decided to read some analysis books over the rest of this Summer, such as Euler, Hairer/Wanner, Bressoud, to understand the historical foundations of the concepts in basic analysis. I am an aspiring mathematician who is deeply interested in the analysis, topology, and their applications to the microbiology. |
